Former Ridgeway School pupils team up with Swindon’s Bus Company with special donation to local hospice

by Go South CoastFormer Ridgeway School pupil, Sam Faria, visited Swindon’s Bus Company at its depot in the town this week - to handover a joint donation to Prospect Hospice.
The money was raised when Sam and former Year 11 classmates called on the local bus operator to help with transport to their Prom.
“We wanted to do something fun - and many of us had been travelling on the bus to school for the past five years, so we asked Swindon’s Bus Company if we could make the journey together as classmates one more time,” said Sam. “We didn’t expect them to say yes, but they did!
“All of us put some money towards the bus hire, and Swindon’s Bus Company decided to double the amount and donate it to Prospect Hospice. It was a really nice gesture and gave us a really positive way to round-off our school days.”
Since 1980, Prospect Hospice has provided the only dedicated end-of-life care service for people living in Swindon, Marlborough and north east Wiltshire - bringing care, comfort and confidence, around the clock, every day of the year.
Alex Chutter, Swindon’s Bus Company general manager, joined Sam to handover a cheque for £320 to Prospect Hospice’s Lisa Curtis.
“The team at Prospect Hospice does incredible work to help create the best possible experience for patients and their families, at a desperately difficult and challenging time in their lives,” he said.
“As our corporate charity the hospice is very important to us - and our team has been fundraising throughout the course of the year.
“When Sam approached us with his request for Prom transport, we couldn’t resist an opportunity to make a further donation. I’m glad he and his former classmates enjoyed their night - and that it led to more support for this wonderful cause."
